Unquestionably one of the most valuable broodmares in the history of Polish Breeding,
BALALAJKA was a miracle mare, surviving (along with her daughter ARFA) the horrors of the Second World War
in private ownership. Post repatriation at Albigowa, BALALAJKA established herself as the most valuable daughter
of Amurath Sahib and as a broodmare of legendary status. Had she only been the dam of breed cornerstone Bask,
she would have been guaranteed immortality, but BALALAJKA was also credited as the dam of three extraordinary daughters:

out - Wilga and BALALAJKA. BALALAJKA had a huge eye, with a kind look, and
exquisite black skin covered with milk-white hair. She had a most beautiful
head, placed on along, thin, swan-like neck. At the same time, she was very
correct, with a strong level croup. One year, we were selecting a mare to be
'Miss Albigowa'. There were plenty of beautiful mares with queen-like
appearances from which to choose - but the clear winner was BALALAJKA. One
could not fail to fall in love with her - she emanated kindness and motherly
goodness with captivating charm."
